Midlife Is Living Fearlessly

For too long, the word M.I.L.F. has been defined by the male gaze - a label that’s often used to objectify or belittle women.

At JD Williams, we’re turning that on its head. We’ve partnered with Carol Vorderman and a cast of inspiring midlife women to redefine the term as Midlife Is Living Fearlessly - a celebration of confidence, freedom, and the unapologetic joy that comes with owning who you are.

“Today, the word M.I.L.F. should stand for Midlife Is Living Fearlessly - grow that confidence, girls! I’m 65 and I’ve never felt as powerful as I do today.”

We sat down with six empowering women - including two of our very own JDW Rewards customers, Jayne and Sarah - to talk about feeling desirable, confident, and free in a world that still loves to tell women what they should or shouldn’t be. Here’s what they had to say about redefining the term and embracing Midlife Is Living Fearlessly.

"What does M.I.L.F. mean to me? I think it just embodies a woman who is comfortable in her own skin, feeling like she belongs, feeling like she still has a purpose.”

Monique

“I feel that because there’s so much knowledge and so much life experience, I think that’s what gives you that little sexy feeling that the younger people can’t have yet. They’ll get there, but they can’t have it now.”

Jayne

“I define being sexy in midlife as basically just being comfortable in your own skin. I think if you’re comfortable, then that shows in you in general.”

“I think we’re seeing a new wave and a new generation of women who are going, “No, I’m not shrinking, I’m not hiding.” And actually, this is a new season of my life and I’m going to embrace it.”

Alison

“For me, I call it my sexy woman era because I’m just so confident. That’s my superpower. I think midlife is my superpower.”

Sarah

“I’m over that adolescent teenage stuff of being self-conscious and comparing myself to others. It’s a case of ‘this is me’. What you see is what you get. Warts and all, wobbly bits and all and everything. And I am just owning it.”
